Hot take: Began sketching soil profiles in my field book as I dig, and it's helping me spot patterns I used to miss.

Why didn't I start sketching sooner? I used to just take notes, but mapping the root zones in my last garden made everything click. That messy drawing turned my scribbles into a real picture.

Ever tried to draw something only to realize your sketch looks like a confused spider walked through ink? My notes were clear until I tried to draw a fence layout, and then even I couldn't tell what it was. Some of us are just meant to stick with words.

Wait, but sketches aren't always the fix. Notes can be just as clear if you structure them well. I've seen people get lost in bad drawings when a simple list would've done the job. The trick is to use whatever helps you see the connections, not just jump to sketching because it feels more visual. Sometimes words map things out better, especially for complex ideas. It's about matching the tool to the task, not ditching one for the other.
