Foreman told me to stop flushing every cut with a chainsaw, thought he was nuts
I ran a chainsaw for close to a decade and my rule was simple: make every cut with the powerhead and clean it up later if I had to. About 3 months ago my foreman watched me take down a big silver maple in Des Moines and said flat out, 'You're burning your bar and wasting my gas, learn to notch proper.' I argued, but he showed me how a clean open face notch makes the hinge do the work and the saw only cuts what it needs to. My chain stays sharp way longer now and I'm going through maybe half the fuel I did before. Anybody else get humbled by an old timer with a notch, or am I the only one who had to hear it the hard way?
