A saw shop guy in Boise told me a 24 inch bar on a 50cc saw is a waste, and half my crew disagrees
Stopped by a small saw shop in Boise last month and the owner said most folks running a 24 inch bar on a 50cc powerhead are just cooking their clutch and losing RPM in the cut. He said the same saw pulls way harder with a 20 inch bar and a sharp full chisel chain, and honestly my 261 felt like a different machine when I tried it. But two guys on my crew swear the extra reach saves their back on limbing and they would rather swap a clutch every couple years than bend over all day. Curious where everyone lands on this, do you run the longest bar the saw can barely pull or do you drop down a size and let the powerhead do the work?
