TIL my old analog multimeter from a Toledo flea market beats the $90 digital one for finding bad compressor windings
Last week I was stuck on a Whirlpool fridge in Perrysburg where the compressor ohmed out fine on my fancy digital meter but kept tripping the overload, and out of ideas I dug out the old Simpson analog I bought for $12 at the Lucas County flea market back in 2019. The needle swing showed a winding shorting under load that the digital never caught, which got me thinking about how the old timers taught me to watch the needle sweep instead of just chasing numbers. Any of you still keep an analog meter on the truck for stuff like this, or am I just old and stubborn?
