That flooded basement in Bakersfield altered my whole diagnostic approach
Back in 2019 I got called to a house where a washing machine drain pump had failed and backed up water into their finished basement. The homeowners were frantic, and I was about to just swap the pump and leave, but something made me check the standpipe height first. Turned out it was way below code, and that was the real issue all along. Now I always measure that before touching any pump, even on service calls that look simple. Anyone else run into installs that were fine for years until the wrong condition exposed them?

Those 2 inches of standpipe probably saved you a lot of grief down the road. Honestly, bet the last guy who installed it thought shortcuts were fine until a $3000 cleanup proved otherwise. Now you got a nice story to tell while you're measuring every pipe like it's a crime scene.
