Heard a guy at the supply house say he never checks dryer vent clamps

I was waiting for parts yesterday and overheard this younger tech telling his partner he just shoves the vent hose on and trusts the spring clamp. That scared me. I've pulled out three lint fires this year alone from hoses that popped off. How many of you actually replace those clamps or use foil tape instead?

Did that clamp actually just pop off on its own? I had a buddy's setup do the exact same thing - came home to the house smelling like burnt dust and found the hose laying on the floor with the clamp right next to it. Foil tape or new worm gear clamps every time now, spring clamps are junk.

My buddy up in Ohio learned that one the HARD way. His neighbor’s dryer hose popped off while they were out shopping and filled the whole laundry room with lint dust before the element caught. By the time they got home the wall behind the dryer was smoldering. He said the spring clamp was still on the floor like it just bounced off.
