Heard a guy at the parts counter say he always checks the door switch first on a washer that won't spin, which saved me a whole hour on a Whirlpool yesterday.
I was grabbing a thermal fuse in Phoenix and overheard another tech telling the clerk he skips straight to the door latch on any no-spin call, so I tried it on my next job and, sure enough, the little plastic actuator arm was snapped clean off (saving me from chasing a bad motor or lid lock assembly first).

Yeah, but a shortcut that works is still a win.

Blindly checking the door switch first is a lazy shortcut. You might get lucky sometimes, but you'll miss a ton of other common problems. A proper diagnosis starts with testing for power at the motor and checking the lid lock circuit. Skipping those steps just means you'll eventually waste more time on a call where it actually is the motor or control board. Relying on one trick makes you a hack, not a real tech.
