The dub that flipped my opinion on sub-only purists

I used to swear nothing beat original Japanese audio, no exceptions. Last month I finally watched the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dub with my buddy in Austin and it totally wrecked that stance. The voice actors actually matched the punchlines better and Colonel Mustang's sarcasm hit way harder in English. What convinced me was realizing the director's commentary said they rewrote jokes for western timing, which I never thought about before. Has anyone else switched sides on dubs after giving a specific show a real shot?
