Spent 80 bucks on a new wire tracer and it saved my butt on a service call

Ngl, I was using the same old toner from 2012 for years and kept getting false reads. Finally grabbed a Klein VDV500-820 for 80 bucks and found a broken alarm loop in a wall in like 10 minutes yesterday. Anyone else had a cheap tool hold them back for too long?

Nothing beats the feeling of using your eyes and a multimeter like a real tech.

A 2017 MacBook Pro with a swollen battery taught me that. I used to rely on the diagnostic software for EVERYTHING and thought multimeters were old school. Then I actually looked at the board and saw a tiny dark spot near the charging IC that no program would have caught. Multimeter confirmed the short in two seconds flat. That day I realized your eyes and a simple tool beat any guesswork from a screen.

Keep a magnifying lamp nearby too. Half the time I find busted caps or cracked traces just by looking closer at the board before I even grab the meter.
