Question about wireless sensors: I called them a gimmick for 6 years and now I feel dumb
Back when wireless contacts first hit the market I would not touch them. Too many false trips, batteries dying at 2am, and one panel at a job in Akron kept dropping a zone every time the homeowner ran the microwave. Fast forward to last month, I put 14 wireless door sensors in a 1920s house with plaster walls and zero attic access, and not one has dropped a signal in 30 days. The newer 900MHz stuff with frequency hopping is a different animal from the old gear I wrote off. I still hardwire every new construction job out of habit, but for retrofits I am coming around. What is your cutoff point, how many sensors before you stop trusting the mesh and start pulling wire?
