Ditched the old wire tester for a cheap multimeter with a tone generator
I used to rely on my basic continuity tester for everything on residential runs. Last month on a job in Austin, I kept chasing a false short in a hallway loop and wasted about 2 hours. My buddy handed me his $40 Klein multimeter with the built-in tone generator, and I found the bad splice in like ten minutes. Now I keep one in my van and won't go back to guessing with a plain beeper. Has anyone else made the switch to tone generators for tracing out older wired zones?
