Question about picking between Snap-on and GearWrench for my tool set
I'm 3 years into working at a regional airline out of Nashville and I'm trying to decide between Snap-on and GearWrench for my main socket set. I got a quote from the Snap-on truck for about $1,200 for a 3/8 and 1/2 drive set, but the GearWrench set at Grainger is like $400. I know Snap-on has the lifetime warranty but the truck only comes by once a week. Has anyone here used GearWrench for heavy line work and had any issues with them breaking? I'm leaning toward saving the cash but don't want to regret it mid-shift.

Isn't that exactly the gamble I'm talking about with @carter.gavin?

See it different than you and @carter.gavin, honestly.

Had a buddy in the union who swore by GearWrench for years. He was doing heavy diesel work and his 1/2 drive set held up fine until one day a 15mm socket split right down the side while he was breaking loose a rusted bolt on a semi frame. He had to borrow tools for the rest of the shift because the truck didn't show up for another four days. I'm not saying Snap-on is worth the extra cash, but ask yourself how much your time is worth when something snaps at 2 in the morning. That warranty is nice until you're standing there with a busted socket and no backup plan.
