Installed a fuel pump backwards for 6 months, caught it by accident
I've been wrenching on planes for about 4 years now, mostly GA stuff. Turns out I had the fuel pump on a Cessna 172 installed backwards the whole time, the flow arrow was facing the wrong way and I never double checked it. What tipped me off was a pilot complaining about rough idle and I watched him prime it, fuel was squirting out the vent line like a fountain. I felt like a total idiot in front of the whole hangar in Wichita, but nobody died and we fixed it in 20 minutes. Has anyone else had a brain-fart like this where a simple arrow or mark saved you from a bigger mistake?

Rough idle is a blessing compared to finding that out at altitude lol.
