I keep seeing guys skip the final torque check on wheel bolts

It's not just about hitting the spec once, you need to verify after a few cycles. I found a loose one on a Cessna 172 last week that was torqued two days prior. Anyone else have a specific step they see people rush through?

My uncle's shop in Dayton actually had a lawsuit over a missed re-torque on a delivery van. It's a step people blow off until something expensive happens, like with @davis.ruby's friend. That second check is cheap insurance against a real bad day.

That lawsuit in Dayton, did your uncle's shop end up having to pay out big?

A buddy of mine had a wheel come loose on his old pickup after a tire shop visit. They torqued the lugs but never did the second check after a short drive. Now he always asks for that re-torque step himself.
