My dad told me I was using the air fryer wrong and he was right

I was bragging to my dad about my air fryer chicken wings last weekend, saying they came out perfect every time. He asked if I was preheating it, and I told him nah, I just toss them in cold. He made me try it his way with a 3 minute preheat at 400 degrees, and honestly the skin was way crispier. I guess I just assumed skipping steps saved time, but it only takes a few minutes. Has anyone else been missing a basic step like this and only figured it out after someone called them out?

Oh my god, same here! I've been doing this with tater tots for way too long (like a year honestly) just pulling them straight from the freezer and tossing them in the air fryer without any seasoning or oil. Turns out they come out way better if you actually let them sit for 5 minutes first and spray a little oil on them, who knew right? But honestly the air fryer is so forgiving that even my lazy method still works okay, just not as crispy. You're not alone in the savage club, we're all learning together I guess!
