Rant: My $15 blade grinder was ruining every cup until I tried the 30 second shake trick
I kept getting these bitter, muddy cups from my French press no matter what beans I bought, and I blamed the beans for weeks. Then a guy at the roaster on 9th Ave told me to grind in 10 second bursts and shake the grinder between each one to even out the chunks. Three bursts, one shake each, and my morning cup went from bitter sludge to something I'd actually pay for. Anyone else find a cheap workaround that beat buying new gear?
Honestly the shake thing makes sense since the blades just fling the big chunks to the outside and leave them there. Curious how much of the win came from the shakes versus the shorter bursts though, like did you ever try just pulsing without shaking to see if it was really the shaking doing the work? Also wondering if you changed your brew time or pour at all after the grind got more even, because a cleaner grind usually pulls faster and that could be part of why the bitter taste went away. Tbh I've been blaming my beans for months too so this gives me something cheap to try first.
