My $9 pour over cone vs the $200 machine my sister swears by, and I'm honestly torn after 3 tries
So here's the thing. I've been making my coffee with a cheap plastic pour over cone for about 5 months now, and a friend at a truck stop outside Amarillo handed me her fancy machine to try during a long wait. I gave it 3 honest tries over 2 days and here's what got me. The machine made a cup that was smooth, no doubt, but it also tasted kind of flat to me, like all the little sharp bits got smoothed away. My cheap cone gives me a cup that's a little rougher but I actually taste more stuff in it, if that makes sense. But now I'm second guessing myself because she paid $200 and swears it's night and day better, and maybe I just don't know what good coffee is supposed to taste like. So which side are you on, is a $9 cone really as good as a $200 machine or am I just fooling myself because I'm cheap? And if you went from cheap gear to fancy gear, did it actually change your cup or just your counter space?
