My $8 thrift store percolator beat my $200 machine
Picked up a rusty old stovetop percolator at a flea market in Portland last Saturday. Figured it'd be a joke, but that thing brews a cup with actual bite, not the watery stuff my fancy drip makes. Anyone else get humbled by a cheap find like this?

My grandma's old Farberware from a garage sale in Boise cost me five bucks and it turned out to be the best coffee maker I've ever owned. I had to scrub it for an hour with vinegar and a toothbrush to get the crud off, but after that first pot, I threw my $150 drip machine in the back of the closet. The percolator makes this thick, strong brew that actually coats your mouth, and the drip always tasted like brown water next to it. I still use it every morning and I've never had to fix anything on it. Sometimes the old stuff just has more guts than the new fancy gear.

Bet grandma scrubbed harder than you did with that toothbrush.
