That $900 programmatic ad spend taught me a lesson
Last spring I threw $900 at a programmatic display campaign for a local client and got like 30 clicks, half of them bots. My old agency days we'd just buy a print spread and call it a day, at least we knew who saw it. Anyone else feeling like the 'smart' tools make it easier to burn cash faster without real proof?
Read a study from Princeton last year that tracked 5 million display impressions and found something like 60 percent of clicks on certain ad networks came from automated traffic. They set up honeypots, basically fake sites nobody would visit, and still got charged for clicks. The whole system rewards volume over actual humans. Your $900 probably went straight into that void. At least with print you could count the papers you bought.
