Serious question, why do so many agencies still pitch clients with a 40 slide deck instead of one strong sample ad?
Last month I sat in on two pitches for the same local client, a chain of 3 tire shops in Toledo. Agency A walked in with a 38 slide deck, brand pyramids, mood boards, a whole slide about their process. Agency B brought a single printed mockup of a Facebook ad and a rough radio script, then asked the owner what his busiest day was. He said Saturdays. Agency B wrote the ad around Saturday mornings on the spot. The owner signed with them two days later. Here is the part that bugs me, Agency A had better design and more staff. But they never showed him a single finished ad in 45 minutes. Nobody buys a deck, they buy the thing that runs. So am I wrong for thinking a sample ad beats a strategy presentation every single time, or does this only work with smaller clients who do not care about the big picture?
