Went with 33s instead of a lift kit on my Tacoma, and now I am stuck on the fence about it
My 2016 Tacoma was rubbing on 31s out at Hidden Falls back in March, so I had a choice: 33s with a small level kit, or a full 2.5 inch lift. I went with the 33s because it was $900 out the door versus $2,200, and the truck sits fine on flat ground. But last weekend on a rocky climb near Marble Falls it caught the fender flare twice, and now I keep wondering if I cheaped out. Anyone run 33s for a while and just trim the plastic, or did you end up going lift anyway?
Funny how this same thing happens with everything, right? You pick the cheaper fix, it works great for a month, and then one bad day makes you question the whole call. Trucks are just like that. You only ever hear about the guy who lifted first and never looked back, nobody posts about the guy who trimmed and kept rolling. Plastic flares are cheap and cut easy, so if that climb is the only spot it kisses, trimming is the smart money move. A lift changes how the truck drives on the highway too, which people forget when they are mad about a rub. Run the 33s, trim what needs trimming, and put that $1,300 you saved toward gas and tires.
