I finally voiced my skepticism about mandatory third-party inspection protocols

Maybe it's just me, but I think the push for mandatory third-party inspections on every residential reroof is creating more problems than it solves. I mean, I've dealt with inspectors who delay jobs for days over minor details that don't affect performance, idk, it just feels like added bureaucracy. Last spring, a simple shingle replacement got held up because the inspector insisted on a permit revision for a vent placement that was to code. It's frustrating when these processes eat into timelines without clearly improving quality.

Ugh, tell me about it. I once had an inspector write up a report that read like a dissertation because my spice rack was too close to the stove. I mean, come on.

Remember that inspector who measured grass length with a ruler, @elizabethjones? lol.

We started sending the inspector photos of the vent layout before they even showed up. Had a quick call to walk through the plans, and it cut the back-and-forth way down. @elizabethjones, your spice rack story is exactly the kind of over-the-top stuff that wastes everyone's time. Getting ahead of their checklist stopped those little nitpicks from holding up the whole job.
