I totally misread a critic's joke at a screening and made a fool of myself
So I was at this movie premiere for a weird indie film last week. A well-known critic sat beside me and muttered, 'This film is a masterpiece of failure.' I thought he was being serious and started gushing about how bold the choices were. I even pointed out the shaky camera work as intentional art. He just gave me this blank stare and didn't say another word. Later, I saw his review calling it the worst movie of the year. My face still gets hot thinking about how I praised it to his face. Now I wait for the written review before I agree with any critic's comments.

Wait, can't written reviews be sarcastic too?

Written sarcasm is basically its own language now.

I once nodded along to a scathing restaurant review before realizing it was a joke. The writer called the food "a crime against taste buds" and I thought they were being nice about bold flavors. Now I read everything twice just in case.
