Hot take: the YEG business mixer at the Convention Centre was a total flop for me

I went to that big networking event last month at the Shaw Conference Centre, hoping to land some solid leads for my construction supply company. Instead, I spent 90 minutes listening to a guy from a bike shop complain about his landlord. Walked out with zero contacts and a parking bill of $18. Next time I'm sticking to smaller meetups at local coffee shops where people actually want to talk shop.

Yeah, $18 for parking just to hear about a bike shop's landlord problems? That's rough, lol.

Don't you think the real cost is more than just the eighteen bucks though? I mean you pay to park, then you're stuck there listening to someone complain about rent hikes. The whole thing just feels like a tax on people who actually care about local shops. Plus the bike shop probably passed the cost of renting the space onto the attendees anyway. So you're paying twice basically. And for what? To watch a small business owner vent about something nobody can fix.

Your mileage may vary" but I've made good connections at those big mixers before.
