Talked to a commercial finisher yesterday who said he never uses a stillson wrench on mud pans, just a 5-in-1 and his palm
He showed me this trick where you tap the pan handle against your knee to knock dry mud loose instead of scraping it out and it hit different because I've been wasting like 10 minutes per job cleaning those things with a sponge bucket.

Swear to god the knee tap trick changed my whole workflow. Been doing it for a week now and my bucket stays way cleaner.

Read somewhere that it works because you're not dragging contaminants from the bottom back into the pile. Tried it myself after @henderson.oscar swore by it and yeah, game changer for sure.

That part about not dragging contaminants back into the pile makes sense. But I think people miss that it also keeps your mix more consistent. Like when you reach in deep you're pulling up the wet stuff from the bottom and it messes with your carbon to nitrogen ratio. I've noticed if I just work the top layer and add material slowly everything stays more... balanced I guess? Less surprises when you go to use it later.
