Rant: Spent 2 years using the wrong layer for my wall sections
At my old firm in Dayton, I always placed my wall sections on the same layer as my floor plans. One day a senior drafter asked me why my Xrefs were a mess and pointed out my layers. I never realized that wall sections should be on their own layer for clean viewports and scaling. Has anyone else found a simple setup habit that saved them tons of rework later?

Man that's a rough one but honestly it happens to the best of us. Layers are one of those things nobody teaches you properly in school, you just figure it out through painful mistakes. Good on you for catching it though, clean viewports make life so much easier down the road.

Wait actually I have to push back a little on the "nobody teaches you" thing. Most intro CAD courses absolutely drill layer management into you from day one. Like yeah it's easy to get sloppy when you're rushing but the basics are definitely covered in school. The real problem is professors who teach layers like they're just for color coding instead of explaining how they actually control visibility, plotting, and lineweights. If you don't get that foundation right from the start you end up with those nightmare files where everything is on layer 0 or Defpoints. But I totally agree that catching it early saves so much headache later, especially when you're working on a team and everyone has to follow the same layer standards.
