I finally admitted my vellum was curling because of humidity

Been drafting for about 12 years and always blamed my cheap vellum for curling at the edges. Last month a senior drafter walked by my table and said hey, your hygrometer is reading 68% which is way too high for this paper. So I checked and he was right - the room humidifier was right next to my flat files. Moved it 15 feet away and my sheets have been flat as a board since. Anyone else miss something that obvious for years?

Room humidifier next to my flat files" is so painfully relatable I actually winced.

You said "room humidifier next to my flat files" like that's a normal thing. I had my humidifier practically hugging my drafting table for two years before I figured it out. My sheets looked like they were trying to fold themselves into origami cranes. Felt pretty dumb when I realized I was basically creating a rain forest for my paper. At least now I know to check the hygrometer before I start blaming the manufacturer.

Nah you're way off base here. A little humidity never hurt nobody, and your paper problem sounds like user error not equipment placement. I keep my humidifier cranked right next to my flat files and my sheets stay flat as a pancake. You probably had the thing set to tropical rainforest mode instead of just taking the edge off the dry air. People act like paper is made of tissue paper sometimes. It's tougher than you think. Check your water level first and stop blaming the poor humidifier.
