Wait, you actually followed the wiring diagram step by step? I'm shook. Most people I know just guess and hope they don't get zapped. That takes a level of patience I do not have. I did the same swap in my bedroom and just matched the wire colors while squinting.

The fact you were squinting while matching wires is genuinely terrifying. That's how you end up with a fan that only works when the neighbor flips their garbage disposal. Some of us enjoy not having our houses burn down.

Oh man, my buddy tried the color matching thing last year and somehow hooked up his ceiling fan to the light switch for the hallway. Took him three days to figure out why the hall was dark.
