Just realized my caulk gun was the problem the whole time
I spent three hours last Sunday caulking the bathroom baseboards and it looked like a toddler did it. Squiggly lines everywhere. I blamed the cheap caulk, blamed the cold weather, even blamed my shaky hands from too much coffee. Then my neighbor came over to borrow my drill and saw my caulk gun. He pointed out the plunger rod was bent from me storing it with pressure on it. swapped it for his spare and the bead came out perfect on the first try. Seriously, a $8 tool was making me look like an idiot for two years. Has anyone else had a simple tool screw up their whole project?

Nah, that was user error not the tool's fault.

Wait, is that a common problem with those things? I've been fighting with my caulk gun for years too and never thought to check the rod. I always just figured I was bad at caulking or the tubes were garbage. Your neighbor probably saved you a lot of future headaches just by pointing that out. It's wild how one little bent part can mess up everything you do, like how a bad extension cord can make your saw run slow. I bet half the people who hate caulking just have a bent rod and don't even know it.
