Wasted $150 on a smart thermostat and it made my heating bill worse
Bought a Nest knockoff from a home show in Denver thinking it would save me money. Turns out the scheduling feature was buggy and kept cranking the heat at 3 AM for no reason. My January bill jumped by $40 compared to last year with my old dumb thermostat. Anyone else have a smart home gadget that backfired like this?

Ugh, that's rough. I had a smart plug that was supposed to turn a lamp on and off, but it just decided to flicker nonstop one night. It felt like a cheap horror movie in my own living room.

Gotta say, $150 for a Nest knockoff at a home show sounds like the first red flag. I don't know, a flickering light or a thermostat waking you up at 3 AM sucks but is it really "horror movie" level? Seems like a simple return would've fixed it.

Man, don't get me started on smart bulbs. I bought a set that were supposed to dim on a schedule, but they'd just randomly turn on full blast in the middle of the night. It felt like getting interrogated. I mean, I just wanted some mood lighting, not a panic attack.
