Can we talk about those $30 smart plugs that claim to save on energy bills

I bought a 4-pack of these things for $30 at the hardware store thinking they'd cut my electric bill by 10% like the box promised. After two months of tracking, my bill stayed exactly the same and one plug stopped connecting to wifi entirely. Did anyone else get burned on these or did I just pick the wrong brand?

I grabbed a Kasa smart plug during a sale and it's been reliable for two years, but it didn't do anything noticeable for my bill either-if anything, the savings are probably only real if you've got stuff like old space heaters or that one light you always forget to turn off.

Wait, so you're saying that even after two years the savings are basically invisible? I guess I always assumed those plugs paid for themselves faster, but maybe I was just buying into the hype.

Funny enough I was totally on the hype train too thinking they'd cut my bill in half, but seeing it laid out like that with real numbers kinda snaps you back to reality. Guess the real win is just not leaving stuff on by accident.
