Why does nobody talk about the visa renewal trap in Bangkok?

I figured extending my tourist visa would be a quick trip to the immigration office last Tuesday. I got there at 7 am with all my papers, but the line was already around the block. They told me my bank statement needed a stamp from the specific branch, which was across the city. Between travel, waiting, and a second trip the next day, the whole thing ate up over 12 hours of my work week. Has anyone found a better way to handle this without losing two days?

Man, I have to totally disagree on calling it a trap. That's just how it works here, you know? You gotta do your homework first and check every single rule on their website. Showing up early with the wrong paper is on you, not them. I've done it smooth in under three hours by getting my documents perfect the night before. It's a process, not a trap.

That line about the website instructions updating after people applied is rough though. Sounds like some folks genuinely got caught out by changes they couldn't have known about, not just bad prep. Hard to blame someone for trusting the rules they found when they started.

Saw a local news piece last year where they interviewed people stuck in line for eight hours because of one unclear form requirement. The reporter dug into the website and found the instructions were actually updated after those people applied. Makes you wonder if the goalposts move sometimes.
