Showerthought: Why do art platforms keep changing their image upload rules?
I just tried to upload a new digital painting to a big art community site. They changed the max file size without warning, so my high-res file got rejected. I had to spend extra time resizing and compressing it, which messed up the details. For example, the fine lines in my character's hair became blurry and pixelated. It feels like these platforms don't care about preserving art quality for creators. Has anyone else run into this problem recently? How do you make sure your art looks good online without losing quality?

Totally feel that about the fuzzy edges. I tried using a "smart" compression tool on some lineart last month to meet a size limit, and it introduced these weird color banding artifacts in what should have been smooth gradients. Had to basically start the export process over from scratch. Sometimes the fix makes it look worse than just uploading a smaller version would have.

Those color banding artifacts sound so frustrating. I had a similar thing happen when I compressed a landscape photo last week. The sunset gradient turned into weird stripes instead of blending smoothly. It made the whole image look cheap and messed up. I ended up having to resize it manually, which took forever. That kind of stuff really makes you distrust those smart tools.

My friend's vector art got wrecked on DeviantArt after their latest change. The sharp edges all turned fuzzy when he reduced the file size.
