Lost 3 hours of work to a misnamed layer, now I name everything as I go
I was doing a commission piece in Procreate last Tuesday, about 6 hours in, and I hit export only to realize I'd been painting on a layer I'd accidentally labeled 'sketch backup' the whole time. The file saved over my original and I lost the last 3 hours of shading, which was the whole reason the client hired me. Does anyone else have a system for keeping layer names straight when you're deep in a piece, or am I just the only one who gets lazy with it?
Man, that sucks. Losing shading work is the worst kind of pain, especially on a commission where the clock is literally money. I did the same thing last month on a poster, painted over a locked sketch layer for hours without checking. Now I just slap a color tag on every new layer the second I make it, even if it's just a quick scribble. It's boring, but it beats the panic of hitting undo fifty times.
