Lost $300 on a reman injector that I should have just rebuilt myself

Bought a reman injector from a place online and it failed after only 200 miles on a Freightliner. Pulled it apart and the nozzle was not even torqued right. Anyone else had better luck just doing their own rebuilds instead of buying reman?

Man I read a report from some diesel shop that said nearly half the reman injectors they see have issues like loose nozzles or bad o-rings. It's wild how much you PAY for someone else's sloppy work. I had a buddy who tried remans on his Cummins and one of them started chattering after 300 miles, so he tore it down and found the pop pressure was way off from the others. Rebuilding them yourself with a good pop tester seems like the only way to guarantee it's done right. These places just crank them out and cross their fingers you won't notice until the warranty runs out.

Honestly that "pop pressure was way off" part is what gets me. Did your buddy ever track down which reman company it was or are they all about the same when it comes to that sloppy QC?
