Hit 500 injector replacements last month and it hit me different

I counted back through my records and realized I've done exactly 500 injector swaps on 6.0 Powerstrokes alone. That's a lot of oil coolers and standpipes too, but the injectors still get me every time.

Oh man, that cup scoring thing is a total gotcha. I had a similar headache with a 7.3 once, thought I was done with a simple injector job and then found the cups had these hairline cracks you could barely see without a borescope. Ended up chasing a smoke trail for three days before I pulled the whole valley pan off and found oil weeping from the bottom of number four. Made me wish I could just weld the damn things in place and be done with it.

Stop and think about what that number really means for the engines that came in after. 500 injectors is a lot of high pressure oil hitting the same spots over and over. I've seen those 6.0s where the injector cups get worn down from all the swapping, and that's when you start chasing leaks that don't show up on a buzz test.

Man, that brings back a memory... I had a buddy years back who bought a used 6.0 from some auction. He was all proud of it until the oil cooler started puking. He swapped it out himself, replaced the injectors, the whole deal. About two months later he's chasing a mysterious leak from the front cover, can't find it anywhere. Turns out the previous owner had swapped injectors so many times the cups were all scored up from the old o-rings. He ended up pulling the whole top end off just to replace them... what a nightmare.
