Caught myself buying name-brand trash bags for 10 years straight
I realized last Tuesday while staring at the receipt that Glad bags cost $8 for 30 count while the store brand at Kroger was $4 for 50 count and they hold just as much trash without ripping, so what other stuff am I overpaying for without thinking?

Walmart brand trash bags are literally the same exact thing as Glad, I've tested them side by side. The real trap is spices though. McCormick charges like $7 for a tiny jar of oregano when the Kroger brand is $1.50 and its the same stuff grown in the same fields. Blew my mind when I stopped buying name brand ketchup too, Heinz is just sugar water with red dye 40 while the store brand actually has more tomato flavor. Grocery stores count on people just grabbing what they always grab without looking at the price tag.

Store brand meds are the same too, same active ingredients for half the price.

Man you nailed it with the spices thing. I used to grab whatever was in front of me at the store until one day I realized I'd been paying $6 for a little jar of cinnamon that's identical to the $2 version sitting right next to it. The bag thing hit me hard too, I switched to store brand garbage bags about a year ago and honestly they feel thicker somehow. Grocery shopping feels like a scam once you start paying attention.
