Tried going to bed at the same time every night for a month and my sleep got worse

I've always been a night owl but read all the advice about a consistent schedule being key, so for 31 days I forced myself into bed by 10:30 PM sharp. Instead of feeling rested, I ended up lying awake for over an hour most nights and felt groggier than when I just let my body crash when it wanted. Has anyone else found that strict bedtime rules backfire for them?

I saw a sleep doc on YouTube talking about this exact thing. She mentioned something called "sleep drive" and how forcing yourself into bed too early can actually fight against your natural rhythm. Basically if you don't have enough sleep pressure built up, you're just training your brain to associate the bed with being awake and frustrated. In my experience, trying to go from a night owl to a 10:30 bedtime is like jumping from a sprint to a full stop. Your body needs to gradually shift, not get slammed into a new schedule overnight. The whole strict routine thing works for some people but your mileage may vary big time depending on your genetics and lifestyle.

Hard disagree, if you train your body hard enough it eventually gives up and adapts.

Problem with @reese124's logic is my body never gave up, just made me hate my bed.
