My cat finally used the new cat tree after I put catnip on it for the third time this week.
He climbed to the top, took a long nap, and then woke up and knocked over my favorite coffee mug, which taught me that a win with pets is always a little messy.

Funny enough, I had a similar thing with my dog and a new bed. I kept putting treats on it, he ignored it for a week, then one day he just decided it was his spot and passed out cold. The treats probably didn't matter, he just needed to feel like it was his idea.

Actually, catnip doesn't work on all cats. It's a genetic thing, some cats just don't react to it at all. So if the catnip didn't work the first two times, your cat might be one of those. Maybe he just finally decided he liked the tree on his own. The win is still a win, even if the catnip wasn't the real reason. That mug was just the price of doing business with a cat.

Yeah that's a good point from @daniel474, cats really do run their own show. I mean, the win is still getting the cat to use the thing you bought. Sometimes you just gotta accept the weird costs.
