Serious question, my grinder died mid pot on a Sunday and I ended up using a blender, was that dumb?
Last Sunday I was in my kitchen in Boise at 7am, dumped a scoop of beans in my cheap blade grinder and it just quit after 2 seconds with a little burnt smell. I panicked because I had family coming over at 9 and no backup plan, so I threw the beans in my old smoothie blender on the lowest pulse and got this really uneven mix, half powder half chunks. The pot came out muddy and bitter no matter how I poured it, and my brother in law politely drank one cup then switched to tea. Now I'm wondering if I should just buy a hand grinder for $40 or try the blender trick again with shorter pulses. Has anyone actually made a blender work for drip, or am I wasting my time?
Get a hand grinder off Amazon for like 20 bucks and save yourself the headache, the blender just can't do a consistent grind no matter how you pulse it. Tried the pulse thing myself and it's always powder mixed with boulders, so you're not wasting your time, you're just using the wrong tool.
