I started weighing my coffee beans on a $12 kitchen scale from Target and it fixed my sour cups
I was scooping beans for about two months and could not figure out why my coffee tasted sour some mornings and bitter on others. My buddy Marcus, who used to barista at a shop in Portland, watched me make a cup and said I was probably swinging between 14 and 22 grams without knowing it. I grabbed a cheap digital scale, started measuring 18 grams of beans to 300 grams of water, and the sour thing basically went away after 3 tries. Now the same bag tastes the same every single morning, which sounds small but it is not. Does anyone else weigh their beans or do you all just eyeball it and hope?
