Last Tuesday my brother stopped by for meatloaf and I hit him with a joke about why the scarecrow got a promotion at his job. He looked at me dead serious, waited two full seconds, then let out a groan so loud my sister heard it from the kitchen. My niece, who is 9, laughed so hard she knocked over her milk, and that was the real win of the night. I have been keeping a little notebook of these since January and that groan earned the joke a spot in my top 5. The best part is my brother now tries to beat me to the punch at every family dinner we have.
