Laptop got hit by a coffee spill at a Panera in Marietta last month
I was working on estimates at a Panera in Marietta last month and some kid knocked his drink right onto my keyboard. It fried the whole thing, motherboard and all, and I lost a week of files because my backup drive was sitting at home. Has anyone found a good waterproof keyboard cover that actually works for typing all day?

Guess that kid didn't read the "don't splash the laptop" memo.

And that's a lesson some people have to learn the hard way, I guess. You'd think common sense would tell you not to have an open drink anywhere near expensive electronics. But then again, I've seen people in my line of work do things that make you wonder how they even log on in the morning. Sounds like that family is going to be shopping for a replacement laptop soon, at least if they're smart about it. Thanks for the laugh, @nancythomas, we all needed that reminder.

I mean honestly it feels like every public place with a laptop crowd is just one clumsy moment away from disaster these days. It's not just Panera either, you see it at coffee shops, libraries, even on airplanes. People get so focused on their screens they forget drinks are basically landmines sitting two inches away. Maybe it's just me but I feel like we're all just one distracted kid or slippery cup away from a really bad day.
