Unpopular opinion: I picked the fancy espresso machine over the simple one at work

Our break room got a budget and I chose a $400 super-automatic over a $50 french press setup. My coworkers were mad because it kept jamming on cheap beans and took 5 minutes to clean. Would you rather have something quick and easy or a gadget that needs a bit of attention every day?

My buddy Tom got stuck with this exact situation at his old office. They got one of those shiny super-automatic machines and within two weeks the group chat was just photos of error codes and half-full cups of bitter sludge. The cleaning cycle took forever and nobody wanted to do it so the thing just sat there gathering dust. Meanwhile the receptionist brought in her own $20 Aeropress from home and suddenly everyone was asking her to make them coffee. She got so fed up she started charging a dollar a cup and made like $60 in two days. Honestly, I'd take the french press every time because at least you know what you're getting and it's just you and the grounds, no fussy electronics involved.

My crew had the same problem with a pod machine - ended up just bringing my own v60 and a hand grinder, kept it in my desk drawer and never had to deal with anyone else's mess.

Nah, let's be real for a second. That receptionist turned her desk into a coffee stand and made sixty bucks off her coworkers in two days, that's not a problem with the machine, that's a free market opportunity. The super-automatic was the real hero here, it created a side hustle for someone with actual hustle.
