Old timer told me to always grease the boom pins before first lift of the day

Back in 2019 I was working a job in Dayton and this veteran operator named Mike pulled me aside. He said make it a habit to grease the boom pins before you even start the engine, not after. I figured he was just being old school but I tried it for a week. My machine ran smoother and I didn't have that squeaking noise I used to get halfway through the shift. Has anyone else gotten advice from an older operator that actually worked out or was it a waste of time?

Oh man, @hollyl45 is lucky that boom didn't give her a real wakeup call. I learned this lesson the hard way too - spent a whole morning greasing everything except the pins and ended up looking like I was trying to bounce a baby to sleep while running the controls. Now I do the pins first just so I don't have to explain that noise to the foreman again.

Didn't Mike tell you to do it first thing in the morning too, I always start with the boom pins now.

Eight weeks in and I was still skipping those pins until I had a boom almost shift on me. Changed my whole routine, now I do them before anything else.
