Last month on a job in Tacoma, this homeowner kept shouting up at me while I was positioning a rooftop unit. He said his cousin ran a crane for 20 years and always eyeballed the lift, no math needed. I paused, looked at my load chart, and told him the wind was pushing 15 knots and my radius was already at max. He shrugged and went back inside, then came out with a lawn chair to watch. I made the pick safe and steady, but I still think about how casual he was about a 4,000 pound swing. Anyone else had a bystander try to override your rigging call?
