Showerthought: I stopped putting a nail plate over every notch and my inspector passed it anyway
Last month on a kitchen remodel in Fort Worth I got lazy and skipped nail plates on two studs where the romex sat 1.5 inches back from the face, figuring the inspector would flag it for sure. He walked right past it, said the 1.25 inch rule only kicks in when the hole is closer to the surface, and signed off, but now my lead guy says I'm teaching the new kid bad habits. So who's right here, do you plate everything just to be safe or go by the actual code distance?
