Saw a crew in Baltimore stage a whole floor with just two delivery windows and it finally made sense to me
I was killing time near a job site in Baltimore last Tuesday and watched a crew unload a full floor of drywall and studs in under 90 minutes. What got me was the gate schedule taped up by the fence. They had two windows, 6am to 7:30am and 1pm to 2pm, and nothing else came through that gate the entire day. The super told me they tried three or four windows for a while and the site just turned into a parking lot with trucks blocking each other. Cutting it to two meant the forklift guy knew exactly when to be ready and the subs stopped fighting over the ramp. I've been on jobs where we let vendors show up whenever and it ate half the day. Seeing it actually work on a 6 story building made me a believer. Anybody here run a strict two window gate on a tight site? Did it hold up once the trades really piled on, or did you have to loosen it back up?
That ate half the day" is exactly right, I ran a two window gate on a 4 story and the forklift guy knowing his schedule was the whole ballgame. We did have to flex the afternoon window by 30 minutes once the electricians piled on, but keeping it to two slots held up fine.
