Tried a magnesium float on a driveway last Tuesday and the surface came out way smoother than any steel trowel I've used before

I was worried about it gumming up but the cream lifted right off and left this nice closed finish, has anyone else had good luck with magnesium on flatwork or is it just me?

Yeah I had the same thing happen on a big patio pour last fall, switched to a magnesium float after years of steel and I couldn't believe the difference. It just glides through the cream without dragging or making those little ripples you sometimes get. Are you using a long float or a standard hand float size?

You use a long float or the standard size? I switched to a 36 inch mag float last season and will NEVER go back to a hand float for big slabs. The extra length just makes everything so much more even and smooth. It honestly cuts your finishing time in half once you get the hang of it. But yeah magnesium is the way to go for sure, steel just fights you on creamier mixes.
