Caught a weird broom finish on a driveway in Phoenix today
I was driving through a new subdivision in Phoenix yesterday and stopped to look at a driveway they were pouring. The finisher was using a magnesium float way too early and it left these little ripples that looked like water lines. I asked the guy why he didnt wait and he said his crew was behind schedule so he rushed it. Honestly the finish might hold up but it looked rough to me. Anyone else see guys skipping steps just to save an hour?

That sun hitting it at the wrong angle thing is a real problem nobody talks about enough... it's not just about how it looks up close, it's how the light plays across it all day long. Bet that contractor learned real quick that "decorative finish" excuse doesn't hold water when the neighbors can see uneven ripples from down the street. Funny how a rushed job can end up costing way more time and money in the long run than just doing it right the first time.

Got a buddy who watched a crew in Tucson do the same thing on a new build last spring. They troweled the whole driveway way too wet and it ended up with this weird wavy texture after it cured, almost like sand dunes but tiny. He said the homeowner was pissed cause the sun hit it at the wrong angle and it looked like a mess from the street. The contractor tried to say it was a decorative finish but everyone knew it was just rushing. Last I heard they had to grind it down and resurface the whole thing six months later.
